Come Shoggle With Us!
Shoggle = Shuffle, Jog and Jiggle
Running in the Buff…
...is where recreational running meets the world of competitive high-fashion fabric neck tubes (buffs) or at least that's the dream!
Actually, Running in the Buff is just a group of folks that have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning on the weekends and need a little extra motivation, inspiration and at times collective guilt, in order to get up and exercise.
From late-March to early July (2018), the Running in the Buff group will meet at 8 AM on Sunday mornings to shoggle (shuffle, jog and jiggle). The Sunday mileage will gradually increase until we're able to shoggle the July 4 half-marathon on Sauvie Island. There's also a schedule to help everyone do shoggles on their own during the week to gradually build up to the longer weekend miles. The meeting location and route for the Sunday run will be emailed out the week prior, and posted on the events/calendar page of this website.
- But I don't run. No worries! You can run, jog, walk/jog or just walk! Sing it now: "Shoggle it...just a little bit."
- I'm slow. Us too! The group is really diverse in terms of speeds. There is no pressure to go fast or keep up with others. It's definitely a go at your own pace situation. The only competition with this group is for how well you accessorize your buff.
- But I don't want to shoggle that far! That's cool. As the mileage increases there will always be shorter routes you can do instead, typically in the 4-5 mile range.
- Can I bring a friend? Yup! Bring friends, partners, kids, dogs, feral raccoons (but don't run near Fritz with it). The more the merrier.
- Do I have to wear a buff? No. But Glenn will probably give one to you even if you don't want it. It's kind of his obsession. Just smile graciously and discreetly stuff it into your back pocket.
- Can I run in the actual buff? Sure, if you really want to...but don't come crying to us about any chaffing that results.
