The Ultimate Running Mixtape
Now that you are all sufficiently inspired I wanted to spend a minute discussing running with music. The internet told me that people who run while listening to music are 61% faster than those that run without. And as we all know , “The internet is fact.” George Washington said that, I saw it on the internet.
While I believe in George Washington (because ‘Merica) I did some intensive scientific research for myself. I went out today and ran with and without music to measure my mood and my performance.
This is me without music. I felt lethargic and sad.
Now this is me with music. Nothing was going to stop me!!!
So my mood was definitely elevated with music but let’s be honest, first and foremost I’m an athlete with a deep desire to win so what I really care about is my performance.
My running metrics without music. A gentlemen in a walker passed me, and not the kind with wheels in front but the one with the tennis balls.
This is me with music. A drastic improvement and almost up to my normal pace.
It wouldn’t be fair to arm you with this knowledge and not also provide you with THE ULTIMATE RUNNING MIXTAPE. So that’s what I’ve done.
Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Mandatory air guitar while running. Sorry, I don’t make the rules
Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus
It’s okay to cry during the maudlin parts, distance runners like us are emotional creatures
The End - The Doors
Try to resist stopping for a “dance break” when you’re jamming to this
It’s Raining Men - The Weather Girls
All joking aside, this song is really great for pretty much anything. And it’s Homer Simpsons favorite song so there’s that
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
I Will Always Love You - Dolly Parton
Fix You - Coldplay
Who names their child Apple?
Do They Know It’s Christmas - Band Aid
The Bruce Springsteen part will get you up and over any hill
And bring it on home with….I’m Gonna Be - The Proclaimers
And I would run a great 5K and I would run it near a store (see what I did there? Making up your own lyrics is the funnest part of listening to music while running)
All of these tunes should be available on Spotify or iTunes. You’re welcome.
Also, the shirts came in and they look awesome.
